Reston Heights Plan Approved02/01/2008 : ObserverReston Heights Plan Approved The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the Planned Residential Community plan for the Reston Heights development during a public hearing Monday afternoon. Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins voted Jan. 7 to defer the vote until Monday so there could b e further review on modifications to the plan. Reston Heights is a proposed mixed-use development that would feature more than 1 million square feet composed of retail and residential units. The development would be built near the intersection of Reston Parkway and Sunrise Valley Drive. Residents at the county’s Jan. 7 public hearing said they were concerned the project would significantly increase traffic and congestion. Hudgins said the county cannot require the developer, The JBG Companies, to complete a full traffic analysis at this time, but they will have to finish such a review when they submit their site plan. Hudgins also said they will work to provide access across Reston Parkway since this will be a transit-oriented development. Officials at the Federal Transit Administration last week expressed serious concerns about funding of the Silver Line extension to Dulles Airport, but Hudgins said, “For our viewpoint today, we expect rail to be there.” Representatives with The JBG Companies said at the Jan. 7 public hearing that they plan to submit a formal site plan in the next six to 12 months. |
